Milan-based IdentifAI Secures €2.2 Million to Detect AI-Generated Content

Published at: September 05, 2024

IdentifAI, a Milan-based startup, has raised €2.2 million in seed funding to develop tools that detect AI-generated content. The company specializes in creating deepfake detection technology, helping people distinguish between content made by artificial intelligence and real, human-created work.

The funding round was led by United Ventures, a venture capital firm that focuses on technology startups. Business angels such as Edoardo Alessandri of Wellness Holding, Matteo Fago, co-founder of Venere.com (now part of Expedia), and Umberto Paolucci of UP Invest also participated in the round.

This investment shows a strong commitment to developing technologies that can fight against the harmful use of deepfakes and promote transparency and security in digital media.

A Clear Line Between Real and AI-Generated Content

IdentifAI’s mission is to empower everyone—whether they are consumers, business leaders, or political decision-makers—with the tools to identify AI-generated content. By distinguishing between content made by humans and AI, the company aims to ensure that emerging technologies benefit society and do not become tools for spreading false information or creating chaos.

Marco Ramilli, founder of IdentifAI, explained, “The advancements in generative AI are blurring the lines between what’s real and what’s digital. It’s becoming harder for the human eye to tell the difference. Our goal is to give people the ability to know whether what they see, hear, or read was created by a machine or a person.”

The fresh funding will help IdentifAI improve its degenerative models—advanced tools that can detect AI-generated media like images, videos, sounds, or text. These models work by analyzing content and determining whether it was created by artificial intelligence.

The Growing Deepfake Detection Industry

IdentifAI’s innovative approach has caught the attention of major industry players. The company is in talks with several businesses to validate and expand the reach of its deepfake detection solutions. With more companies becoming aware of the dangers posed by deepfakes, AI-generated content detection tools like IdentifAI’s are becoming crucial.

Massimiliano Magrini, co-founder of United Ventures, noted, “Our investment in IdentifAI aligns with our mission to support startups that offer innovative solutions to complex problems. Distinguishing whether content is AI-generated or not is becoming essential, and IdentifAI is positioned to lead the way in the deepfake detection industry.”

With €2.2 million seed funding, IdentifAI is set to expand its reach and improve its technologies, helping ensure that AI-generated content detection becomes a reliable tool in the fight against misinformation.

Proprietary Technology to Combat Deepfakes

At the heart of IdentifAI’s success is its proprietary generative model, which analyses AI-generated content. This system works by detecting subtle clues, such as pixel patterns, that indicate whether content was created by artificial intelligence. With this technology, IdentifAI is positioning itself as a key player in the fight against deepfakes and other forms of AI-generated media. As deepfake detection becomes more critical in today’s digital landscape, IdentifAI is leading the charge with innovative solutions and a clear vision for a safer, more transparent information environment.
