Microsoft is set to introduce the next phase of Copilot innovation at a special event on September 16th. The event, called "Wave 2," will be hosted by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Jared Spataro, Vice President of AI at Work. This LinkedIn-hosted event will focus on Microsoft 365 Copilot updates and new advancements in the company’s AI assistant technologies.
The Copilot event will primarily target the business side of Microsoft’s AI offerings. One of the major announcements expected is the rebranding of Microsoft’s AI tools. Instead of "Copilot in Word," the tool will now be called "Microsoft 365 Copilot in Word." Similarly, "Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365" will be renamed as Microsoft 365 Copilot to provide a more cohesive branding experience.

In addition to rebranding, Microsoft is expected to reveal several new features for Microsoft 365 Copilot. These updates aim to attract more businesses to sign up for the $30 per user per month subscription. Since Microsoft unlocked Copilot AI features in its Office apps earlier this year, businesses have been debating whether the service justifies the price. With this event, Microsoft hopes to showcase how AI-powered features in Word and Office tools can deliver value for companies.

While the focus of the event is business-orientated, Microsoft might also introduce new features for Copilot Pro, the consumer version of the subscription. With a $20 monthly price tag, Copilot Pro offers many of the same AI features in Word as the business version but has seen fewer updates since its launch. Notably, Microsoft removed the GPT Builder feature from Copilot Pro in June, leaving many consumers anticipating what comes next.

With the $30 per user per month pricing, businesses are looking closely at whether Microsoft 365 Copilot delivers enough value to justify its cost. During the Wave 2 Copilot event, Microsoft will likely highlight the efficiency and automation that AI in Office apps brings to businesses, aiming to convince them of its worth.
The Wave 2 Copilot event will take place on Monday, September 16th, at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET. With Microsoft 365 Copilot new features and updates expected, both businesses and individual users will be eager to see if the next phase of Microsoft’s AI assistant meets their needs.
